**Note: The program will be held on-site at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and REU FoDOMMaT fellows will work in person during Summer 2023.**
FoDOMMaT (The Future of Discovery: Training Students to Build and Apply Open Source Machine Learning Models and Tools) is a 10-week training experience in machine learning at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) in which students will work on developing open source machine learning models and tools and applying them to solving real world problems.
This program is made possible by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
The nation’s premier academic supercomputing center, NCSA, located on the campus of one of the nation’s top public land-grant universities, the University of Illinois, wants you, one of the nation’s future scientists and researchers, to work with our experts in machine learning and software development for 10 weeks to help you learn about machine learning and software as a key elements of modern research!
This opportunity is perfect for highly-motivated students with diverse backgrounds, including those from minority serving institutions (MSIs)—such as Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and schools with low levels of research activity, including community colleges. A key goal for FoDOMMaT is to provide opportunities to learn about and gain experience with these types of research to those who have the potential to excel but lack the opportunity. If you are interested in a different undergraduate research program but perhaps think FODOMMaT isn’t for you, there are many other REU sites.
